Dr. Tanja Nishibata has been working as a chiropractor in Melbourne since 2002 and is a sporting wizard, to say the least. In 2022, She was nominated for the Victorian Sport Award - Master Athlete of the Year for her achievements in rowing.
She has a special interest in sports rehabilitation and injury management, which is complimented by her own personal experiences in the sporting environment at the highest of levels. She has a strong passion for rowing, which she has been involved in since she was 19 years old. She has competed at the national level, in Open and Masters, both in Canada and Australia. For the last decade, she has been on the Victorian Masters Interstate crews, predominantly in the Quad. She has also volunteered over 10 years on the Melbourne Rowing Club Committee as Club Captain. In 2016, Dr. Tanja was inducted as a Life Member at Melbourne Rowing Club. She was the first female to achieve such an honour. For the last two years, she has also been volunteering many hours per week as the Head Coach of the Men's Squad at Melbourne Rowing Club.
Prior to rowing, Dr. Tanja's other passion was figure skating. She also excelled in this sport, competing at the national level and training with Canada's top figure skaters during her late teenage years. This period of time was also a pivotal turning point in her life in regards to her confidence, maturity, respect for the sport and understanding how everything integrates and affects performance.
From injury management, sports psychology, mental and physical endurance and training, Dr. Tanja applies her vast knowledge, understanding and experience into her treatment approach and openly passes this valuable knowledge on to her patients. It is an accumulation of all of these experiences, which ultimately shapes who Dr. Tanja is as a chiropractor.
Dr. Tanja's techniques include: Chiropractic manual therapy (diversified), conservative therapy (mobilization, activator technique, blocks), soft and deep tissue therapy, active muscle release, TMJ, rehabilitation including proactive stretching, core stabilization, and sports taping.
Dr. Tanja was also the sports chiropractor for the Roxy Pro surf team that competed in Fiji in 2002 and has been a Sports Trainer for a local Amateur football team for many years.
